Flipkart set to launch online food delivery service

Flipkart online food delivery service

As online food delivery continues to witness growth, another major player is eyeing an entry into the market.

Flipkart, owned by Walmart, has laid bare its ambitions to make a foray into the evolving market, stating that food delivery should start in the next few weeks.

The launch will be restricted in geography and scale, before the service becomes a full business. This is the strategy the company adopted with its quick e-commerce business, Flipkart Minutes.

Flipkart Group CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy said the food delivery will be launched in the next few weeks.

Krishnamurthy was quoted as saying that they will first evaluate the value proposition with customers, collect feedback, make improvements, and then take a decision to scale it.

The company will launch a standalone app for the food delivery service as well as integrate it into the main Flipkart app to provide an easy access to its existing customers.

The group eventually aims to cover as much of the entire market catalogue as possible.
